Why do people feel the necessity to reply to questions with out actually answering.?

It seems as if there are more stupid people than there are intelligent people. I tried asking if it was safe to feed my kitty a store bought mushroom we were gonna cook in stew yesterday and I got an answer having to do with a guy using drugs in his butt. Weird right? Needless to say, I never gave my kitty that mushroom.
